I’ve always loved beautiful old jewelry and have a deep appreciation for fine craftsmanship and the way my favorite jewelry pieces have a sense of personal history and emotional energy. You know how it is – your grandmother’s ornately filigreed necklace, a special ring given by a lover to seal a commitment, the perfect pair of earrings that recall a memorable vacation with friends – wearing these pieces never fails to make you feel happier, more alive and connected to love. You smile when you see them in your jewelry box, you remember the person who gave them to you, and they just make you feel good when you wear them.
Jewelry possesses power, and it can be used to stimulate our energies and our senses in a very profound way.
That’s why, in making the decision to start my company, Rx Rox, I knew my jewelry had to be more than simply beautiful and well-designed: it had to offer people a sense of an expanded comfort zone and energize them on their personal path to spiritual and physical wellness.
I call my pieces ‘handmade prescriptive stone jewelry’ to pay homage to their origins in Mother Earth.
Most crystals were born within the earth’s magnetic field, so it’s not surprising they absorb magnetic energy. Every cell in your body emits an electrical charge. When the charge within the crystals is brought near the cells in your body or the electromagnetic shield surrounding your body, crystals gently bring the energy of your cells back into balance.
Over the years, I have studied and read a great deal about crystal healing, chakras, reiki and the science of healing and vibration. But, once I began to experience the powerful transformative and healing effects of stones for myself, there was simply no turning back for me. I have spent most of my life as a musician and singer-songwriter – and wasn’t looking for a change in career path – but I very literally became obsessed with making prescriptive stone jewelry; I felt drawn and driven and it all started on a ski trip with my daughter.
My daughter, Ella introduced me to beading when she and I took a trip to the Colorado Rocky Mountains. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience selecting the beads, choosing patterns, finishing and wearing a colorful piece of jewelry I designed myself. Then, my daughter, Zoe, a yoga instructor in NYC, began to teach me about the senses, emotions and asanas corresponding to different body areas. This helped to reinforce my knowledge of crystals and the chakra systems of the body. Soon after, my dear friends at Steven Hewitt’s eco-resort in Belize, Thatch Caye, had me beading with them in nature. Imagine an island so lush and verdant – it gave me an understanding of how important it is to touch nature and allow its goodness to recharge my battery daily. I wanted to experience the feeling every day!
And then, a few months later, I went to Brazil and had what I can only describe as a transcendent experience. While visiting a crystal emporium, I was flooded with emotions. In the same way a song or an idea reveals itself, I literally felt the vibrations resonating within me, ‘speaking’ to me if you will, and for the first time I experienced the true power that crystals possess….and the need to share their therapeutic benefits in an urban world where demands in the workplace and family life can sometimes leave us depleted.
My decision to create Rx Rox flowed naturally from there.
I personally select all the semi-precious and precious gems used to create each handmade Rx Rox piece. I look for natural stones that work best together to give you the optimum result. Before it arrives on your doorstep, each piece of Rx Rox jewelry is cleansed and crystal generator charged.
In a world that is often hectic, stressful and less than centered on nature, I believe Rx Rox jewelry offers more than simple beauty. It’s my sincere hope that Rx Rox will help each of us to hold the planet in harmony and encourage a deeper respect for Earth’s natural resources. It is my intention to create pieces that will help and heal, provide pleasure, and offer you more joy in living.
